This has been done before, so I thought it was time for another round to see if you have any good stories to share. And also I would like to wish you a Happy Birthday JB.
A recent trip of mine:
I fly serveral non-rev trips evey month but my latest stuck out as a unique one for me because I do not normally fly the ORD-LAX route. Anyway, I get to the aiport at 7am for my overbooked flight and noticed that my flight had been delayed to 11:10(didn't realy care). There were several early nonstop options available, but I decided to stick with this one being that it was the only three-cabin widebody flying the route that day. I watched several LAX-ORD flights board with swarms of standby passengers grasping to get on the 757s. Most were from my flight and trying to get out earlier than our rescheduled time and was fine by me cause it would ultimately open up seats on my flight. I had anticipated this happening so was feeling pretty comfortable I would my original the flight. Then our plane arrived and (praise the lord) it was 777! Upgraded from a 767 (usually the other way around) An upgraded aircraft is a ray of hope for any nonr-ever. I knew my odds of getting in were way better and that I would likely be in F or C - That's just what happended. After they boarded all pax my name was immediately called and they "welcomed" me into First Class. Seat 2J, which is the international first suite. Such a wonderful surprises really balances out the other trials and tribulations that accompany non-reving. The flight was amanzing! I'll save the details since this isn't exaclty a trip report. But something fun about this trip... I met two young SkyWest flight attendants who were also SAs. We were all cleared into F class, we bonded, and even ended up going out with one of them last night!
Well last night was possibly the best gig I have ever been to. Ook so its not the real GnR, but they were all on top form and Axl's voice is just incredible right now. I mean they even managed to sound terrific in the SECC which is usually crap for sound given that it was not built as a music venue (they just use it for capacity).
They came on stage about an hour late (2200), but they more than made up for the crapness of Bullet For My Valentine. A dragged out intro to Welcome To The Jungle only built the suspense. "Do you know where the f*** you are!!!!" belted out across the arena and the song intro really kicks in. The crowd are going wild and by the 2nd song (Its so easy) Axl had to stop to tell everyone to move back as people at the front were getting crushed and dropping like flies.
Needless to say the whole night ws excellent from start to finish. It was good to hear some great new tracks: Better, The Blues and Madagascar. They finished in style with fireworks and thousands of tiny piecies of coloured paper falling from the roof along to Paradise City. By this time it was 0030 but no-one was caring as they had witnessed a truely excellent rock concert.
What are your favorite, most interesting, worst, best experiences you have had while non-reving???
